After a very pleasant drive to Ashland, Oregon last Friday, we relaxed and wound down in our hotel, The Stratford Inn

We rose early Saturday morning for the rest of our journey to Eugene, where the Junior Meats played in their first tournament.  Read on for Eric Miyashiro’s report. (courtesy of info feeds from Vickie!)

Turkey Bowl 2005 - Eugene, OR

Game 1: Alameda 9 Roosevelt 4

In a game that was hard capped, Alameda won it’s first game of
the tournament in chilly 35 degree weather. For the first point of
the game, Junior Meat was able to throw an "iso" play with Drew
Fetzer who scored the first point. In the 7th point of the game,
Roosevelt was able to come to the endzone until young Chris
DeMello got the block and the turnover. Going into half-time
clinging to a 5-4 lead, Simon Higgins led a gradual charge up
field, before ending with Zach Rung in the endzone to take the
half, where they took the scoring the rest of the way.

Game 2: Alameda 6 Kennedy 7

In a heart-breaking loss, Alameda fell victim to hardcap.
However, to score the points, Kaila P started a long string of
completions to get to Ryan M with a leaping catch into the
endzone. A few points afterward JT Dierling was able to
intercept a Kennedy pass and throw to Simon into the endzone.
For the fourth point, Simon then threw a perfect strike to Drew in
the endzone.

However, trailing 6-5 in the soft cap, Alameda cranked up the
defense to a different level getting two "D"s from Simon and Josh
Tafaoa; eventually leading to Alameda scoring; which wasn’t
enough.
